Once again I have shown myself why I don't try to work on anything anymore.

My grandson is getting transferred to germany soon, so he brought his truck home to leave and he will get a smaller vehicle. So I decided to do an oil change, right? Easy Peasy Japanesy. Yeah, right.
With my shaky hands nothing is ever easy. So I found my kneeling mats, got them laid down so I don't completely wreck my knees when I lay down to crawl under.
Finally found my cardboard to put under the truck to lay on. Funny, it was right where I left it. Imagine that.
Took a couple of wrenches with me to remove the drain plug. Took a minute to get it on the plug because of my hands. Wrong size wrenches so out I go to get another one.
Would have been the correct size if I had read the size on the wrench correctly the first time.
Got back under, drained the oil, only got about 7 quarts on me. The truck holds 4.5. Huh.
Replaced the plug, reached up to remove the filter. Sonofabitch who put this on here? Bigfoot? Crawl out again to get my filter wrench. Look here, look there, look everywhere, and no filter wrench.
Well fudge. Get a big pair of channel locks & crawl back under. Only took 5 minutes to get the pliers on the filter. And that is not an exaggeration. And then I couldn't budge the damn thing.
So I crawl back out and found a rubber strap wrench. About 10 minutes later I said eff this and tried the channellocks again.
SUCCESS!!
After that it was fill er up and check for leaks. Anyway, a 30 minute job max turned into about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Oh well. Now I gotta go take a shower. Thanks for listening.

I Guess I Look Like I'm Too Old to Know Better

Yesterday I went to Fresno Ag hardware store. They carry fatwood sticks in a box. I use those to get my wood stove insert fire going. I don't have any local trees I can get any from so I gotta buy em.

Anyway. When I park in a parking lot I always park out in the back 40. It is simply easier for me to park out there cause usually there are no other cars, and I don't have to worry about running into them while parking or while leaving. Plus, when I walk up to the store, that's the only exercise I ever get.

So I'm walking thru the parking lot and this new ram pickup starts driving thru the parking spots instead of down the lanes. He gets close and hollers at me. So I stop to see what this yayhoo wants. He starts in saying something about getting all the rust off and this is his job and he can give me a free estimate.

And I'm standing there trying to figure out what the fufck he is talking about. And he keeps talking about getting rid of the rust. And I finally figure out he is talking about my dilapidated pickup. And he is trying to get me to let him do body work on my truck. For money.

Needless to say I not only said no, but hell no.

So now I'm wondering do I look like a dumb easy mark? Do I look like I'm an old geezer who will let somebody scam me? Someone who would hire someone driving around a parking lot to do body work on my truck? For actual money?

Miscellaneous Rants

Well AAARRRGGGHHH.I have been dealing with a cylinder 1 intermittent misfire for several years on my 3.9l dodge dakota. Here in cali I have to smog this thing every 2 years. And so far I have been able to pass smog with flying colors. The intermittent misfire was not setting the check engine light. But it is getting more frequent, and this year the truck failed smog due to high hydrocarbon content by about 5 ppm. I think that is due to the catalytic converter not being as efficient. But the misfire I think is causing problems more this year than in the past. The truck also has a rough idle I have not been able to repair.

So the combination of those 3 make me reluctant to redo the test.

I have troubleshot this thing down to the nitty gritty and replaced parts, but I have not been successful as of yet.I have checked for vacuum leaks, none I could find. Even smoke checked it with no luck. Replaced pcv valve and hose. New plugs rotor and cap and new plug wire cylinder one. Misfire code when it sets is always cylinder one. Paid $250 diagnosis fee and the assholes didn't do any better than I have.

Compression test all cylinders is normal and even. Sprayed flammable substance around intake manifold with no results. Sprayed it around injector o-rings with no results. Replaced throttle body gasket no results.

Did a fuel injector pressure drop test, all injectors are the same pressure drop. Watched the fuel pressure gauge for 5 minutes and the pressure did not change.

There is a lower plenum gasket on the intake manifold that maybe could leak and cause this that I have not replaced. That may be next.

I am going to take it in tomorrow and try to smog it again. I have added 5 bottles of HEET to my tank.The alcohol helps lower nox and hydrocarbons. Maybe. Wish me luck.

If yes then it's a bad part even if it's a new part because many new parts are low quality Chinese SHIT. If no and the misfire stays on #1 then ... I can't remember but I'll google it! 😆 OH YEAH! Now I remember, I'm 68 and old too! 😆😄😁 If the misfire stays in the original cylinder the issue lies elsewhere, like the fuel injector, wiring harness, or a broken or mouse chewed or shorted harness wire, a bad ground wire somewhere, INSPECT THE CONNECTORS CLOSELY for bent or missing pins, or other mechanical engine problems like loose rocker, bent push rod, or sensor/ valve timing issues worn cam lobe or stuck lifter (Cam/Crank Sensors, vacuum leaks, EGR valve, MAF/O2 sensors) preventing proper air/fuel ignition, indicating a deeper mechanical or electronic fault within that cylinder's system or the engine's management or a fault in the main ECM. Washing Machine Troubles

Recently my washing machine started banging and clanging like a bunch of monkeys beatin on a tin roof with hammers. It was jumpin all over the damn place.
So I investigated and found that the tub on this machine is supported by "suspension rods" and one of the damn things was out of socket. This allows the tub to lean over in one corner and bang around against the sheet metal walls.
I try to just replace the rod in the plastic bearing cup it is supposed to sit in, but that piece is broken beyond useability.
Okay. I call my local parts supply and I can't just buy the one little thing that I need to fix this. I gotta buy a complete set of 4 rods. For $150 bucks or more.
Go on amazon and order a complete set of 4 for 34 bucks. Gets here this friday.

Update on My Bitch Printer

Well my ole printer started working. I shut the power off and restarted about a few billion times, with no joy. Then I searched for a new driver for what felt like a couple of millenia, with absolutely no joy. Went on the epson website and I guess they don't have one or I'm too damn dumb to find the stupid thing.
What I did that finally got it to print right was I unplugged the usb cord and let it sit for a few seconds then plugged it back in. Don't know why that worked but that is what got it to start printing correctly.
The next problem I had with the thing was the capacity of the ink cartridges. There is only enough ink in the silly things to print about negative one sheets of paper. So I had to go buy more ink and that stuff is EXpensive I'm tellin ya.
Anyway I think I am on the road to making two Christmas presents for my daughters. I am printing out 2026 calendars and adding some pictures to the thing. I did that back in 03 and 04 for my family back in Texas, thought I would give it another go round.

Transmission Fluid Change

Personally I have never drained the transmission thinking it was the motor oil drain plug, but I know someone who did. He will never do that again, I guarantee it.
Yesterday I took my 03 Dakota to a quick oil change place I have been going to for almost 40 years. Thru 3 different owners. I wanted to get a drain and fill and replace the transmission fluid filter.
Imagine my surprise when they told me: We don't do that here any more. All they will do is a transmission flush. But they won't drop the pan and replace the filter and gasket.
Apparently the cost to stock the filters and gaskets for the vast number of cars out there is too steep for the new owner to deal with. Oh well. I guess I am gonna do it myself, whether I want to or not. My knees don't like me gettin down on the friggin cold concrete anymore.

My Printer is Being a Bitch

I am trying to print a calendar I am making for a Christmas present. Pictures on the cover and introducing each month. I have january february and march printed out. When I went to print april all the printer would do is print out a dozen pages of gibberish. I shutdown and restarted the printer and computer a couple of times with no help. I will now try downloading a new driver. If that doesn't work I am going to have to buy a new printer. Any suggestions on what to buy? I am all ears.

In August of 1970 I went to naval bootcamp in Orlando, Florida. After graduating from there I went to Great Lakes, Illinois where I made a number of new friends. After leaving there a bunch of us went to Vallejo, California for another 6 month school. When we got there one of the guys had a bandage on a couple of fingers.

Another Democrat Admits They Think Gov't Shutdown is Good

These damn democrats absolutely think they hold the winning hand. I hope the country can survive democrats.
My opinion is this shutdown will probably last thru Christmas, maybe longer. It may stop tomorrow, but I don't think so.
I think this may possibly precipitate the civil war everyone has been saying for 10 years or longer is coming.
The left is correct in one thing though. This is going to require violence, and lots of it, to end this thing.

It’ll be interesting to see if there is an ICE/National guard/police presence. That will indicate whether the overlords are aiming for riots or order in our society’s future.

I don't shop at either of these stores, there is just me in the house. But my family does.
Apparently some consumers have found wire in their jerky. That would be an odd thing, chewing on some meat then get a bite of wire.
Wouldn't that throw your tail up over your head.

Today I turn 74 years old. Still a youngster compared to some folks. Just gonna laze around and not do much of anything. Just like everyday, but today is more special.
My youngest granddaughter is spending the day with me. I think I will take her to breakfast later.

All these decades of giving stuff to people without expecting anything in return are about to come back and bite us in the ass.
This government shutdown looks to me like it could go on for a few more weeks, maybe even months. Could go down as the longest one in our history.
But according to the article, in november money for snap benefits goes away unless .gov has a miracle pulled out of its ass.
Millions of americans and illegal aliens alike are not gonna get their "free" money. And then what happens.
Maybe nothing. But more likely we are gonna see a whole bunch more people in the streets throwing bricks & flaming bottles. Thanksgiving might be a little different this year.
